The 1940 Census - Bess and Jane Greenwell

1940 US Census - Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon

This census shows three generations of Greenwell family living together.  Dollie Chitwood Greenwell was widowed in 1923 and never remarried.  It is interesting that Bess, Mildred, and Lucinda (Jane) all have H-4 educations, while their sister Amy has an 8th grade education and brother Homer, a 7th grade education.  Amy is employed as a stenographer for a sawyer's office, Homer as an auto mechanic for a trucking firm, and Mildred as a seed packer for a seed company.  Interestingly Jane does not list an occupation nor does married sister, Amy Greenwell Grant.
