The Sun Shines @ The Farmers' Market

The "Occupy Eugene" demonstrators moved from the Park Blocks to Alton Baker Park Friday night, so the Farmers' Market was able to set up in its usual location Saturday morning.  And the sun shone!  A glorious October morning.

These carrots were great...so colorful.

And it's the time of year for Brussel Sprouts...

and Pumpkins...

...and Apple Cider.  I had a sample it was good!
Celeriac has shown up...

Surprisingly there were still Strawberries for sale.

Such pretty coloring on these heirloom Roma tomatoes.

Saturday Farmers' Market

Lex and I headed to the Farmers' Market about noon on Saturday.
Look at the menu Field to Table posted - how to chose?

The Market was as crowded - the most people this season.  And you'd never know it was mid-May - look how everyone is dressed in jeans and jackets!

Nonetheless, lots of wonderful produce...

New onions...

Fern Ridge Nursery had lovely baskets...

Lots of tomatoes...though it is still too cold to plant them out...

Loved this sign in conjunction with the display below...

I think new potatoes are one of my favorite things...

And so many lovely bouquets...

I loved this arrangement...

I find the veggy displays are lovely too!

Tuesday Farmers' Market

On Tuesday my sister and I braved grey skies and went to the Tuesday Lane County Farmers' Market ... to look ... and to eat!  Though smaller than the Saturday Market, there was still a nice variety of vendors.

Produce Vendors

and more Produce Vendors

and Flower Vendors.

Also three interesting food vendors.  The always great Field to Table, Cousin Jack's Pasty Company, and new to us, Caramel's French Patisserie.  Ironically, my sister's French teacher came by and was thrilled with Caramel's.  She bought madeleines and meringues which she shared with us!  I will have to try the Chocolate pot de creme sometime.  I ended up getting a couple of smoked salmon pasties at Cousin Jack's - yummm!

Lane County Farmers' Market - Late April

"How I Spent My Saturday Morning"
by Beth

Mom, Lex and I headed out to the Lane County Farmers' Market this morning.  What does that mean to me?  Great food and lots of it!  "Field to Table" is a regular presence at the Market.  Their menu changes each week.  The only constant is that all their products come from the Market.  This morning I could not pass up the Scrambled Eggs with Dungeness Crab in a Mornay Sauce with New Potatoes and Toast - yummy!  The Crab was provided by Ocean Harvest.
I finished it off with Pan au Chocolate from Hideaway Bakery.

Carrots and Beets

Lots of wonderful fresh produce too - we bought some radishes.

Cheery Radishes

Tempting Tulips

These tulips would brighten anyone's day!

Easter Weekend - Saturday

Tulips

I was amazed at the variety of flowers and vegetables available on the first Saturday in April in Eugene, Oregon. I think the floral vendors knew that their customers were looking for special Easter bouquets, so the tulips and daffodils were in great demand.  The Lane County Farmers' Market is truly a jewel in our crown!

Just look at these glorious leeks...

All kinds of fresh greens and carrots too!

Farmer's Market & Lane County Fair

Saturday turned out to be a busy day! Lexa and I went to the Farmers' Market in the morning.

I'd not been for several weeks. I bought Albacore steaks from a fisherman out of Winchester Bay, and fresh bread from Hideway Bakery. Lexa bought peppers a vendor and Goat Cheese from Alsea Goat Farm - I think we are all set to eat locally Sunday evening.

The local meal had to wait for Sunday as we spent Saturday evening at the Lane County Fair. My attendance has been pretty erratic the last several years, so it was fun to have a look-see. The weather was very pleasant and we were treated to a lovely sunset as we exited about 8:30pm.

Here's our Grange's display on the left and a Sow on the right

Road Trip - Corvallis, Oregon

Earlier this summer Lexa and I talked about driving up to Corvallis some Saturday and checking out their Farmers' Market. When on Wednesday I received a postcard from Friendship Crossing stating their annual cross stitch sale would be Saturday the 11th, it seems that it the time had come to make the journey to the land of Beavers!

Lexa made the ultimate sisterly sacrifice, and agreed to get up by 7:00am on a Saturday so that we could begin our "Road Trip" to Corvallis by 8:00am and be in Corvallis by 9:00am. As you can see from the photo above, Friendship Crossing had a sidewalk sale too! Everything on the front table was either $1, or $2 or $3 - how could I resist? I ended up spending about 90 minutes filling my bag with charts and fabric - so much fun!

Lex was not bored out of her mind while I was floating (and buying) in cross stitch heaven. She met at friend for breakfast and a good visit at New Morning Bakery -just two doors down. After I was done shopping, I grabbed a chocolate croissant - it too was heaven on earth! A super-sized croissant with chocolate liberally drizzled on the top...and, if that were not enough, two layers of mini chocolate chips inside. Yumm!

Then it was on to the Corvallis Farmers' Market! We in Eugene are blessed with a very good Farmers' Market, and so now is Corvallis! They have created a fun, spacious market on a closed-to-traffic street next to the river. There were several booths with flowers, produce booths, booths selling organic meats, and a fisherman from Newport with fresh seafood. I bought halibut from the fisherman, spinach and onion sour dough bread from Alpine Sour Dough Bakery, and creamy Havarti cheese from the Willamette Cheese Company. So guess what we had for dinner tonight?

Tomatoes, lilies, and more lilies above - beets and radishes, basil and peppers below. Isn't summer beautiful?
