Vacation - Brazil 2011

A note from Brazil:
"I thought I'd send you some pictures to post on Waxing/Waning site. These are from the zoo and Agua Mineral, a natural preserve and swimming pool close to Brazilia.  It is sunny and warm during the day and cool at night."

"People were feeding the monkeys at Agua Mineral, even though signs were posted everywhere not to feed the wild life. They were eating bananas and other fruit which is ok, but people were also feeding them corn on the cob with butter and salt. We were walking under a tree and Halle was almost beaned on the head by a corn cob which a monkey threw at her!"

Capybara
From Wikipedia: "Capybara are semi-aquatic mammals found wild in much of South America  in densely forested areas near bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers, swamps, ponds and marshes, as well as flooded savannah and along rivers in tropical forest. They roam in home ranges of 25–50 acres. Capybaras are herbivores, grazing mainly on grasses and aquatic plants, as well as fruit and tree bark. An adult capybara will eat 6 to 8 pounds (2.7 to 3.6 kg) of grasses per day.  Capybaras are very gregarious. While they do sometimes live solitarily they are more commonly found in groups that average 10-20 individuals. With 2-4 of them being adult males, 4-7 being adult females and the rest being juveniles."
