In the 1940 census Robert Emmert is a homeowner in Inglewood, CA with a house valued at $5500.  He is a salesman of "spice products'.  The entire family graduated from high school, and daughter Beth is a saleswoman of retail dry goods.

The 1940 Census - Lillian McAdam Gillette

The 1940 census finds Lillian McAdam Gillette married and with two children - Robert and Marion.  Lillian was the oldest child of Thomas McAdam.  Her husband Howard was a farmer and the couple were both high school graduates.

The 1940 Census - Agnes McAdam Ingvalson

1940 U.S. Census, Westfield Township, Dodge Co., MN

In the 1940 census Agnes McAdam Ingvalson is with her husband Albert.  He is listed as a farmer owner and she as the housewife of a farm home.  Albert provived the information to the enumerator, claiming both had an 8th gade education.  This puzzles me a bit as Agnes was listed as a 1901 graduate of Winona Normal School.

Ernest Parney Upton, his wife, and two of his three daughters are enumerated in Mill Creek Township in 1940.  26 year old Helen supplied the information on the census.  Parney was employed as a machinist in a steel shovel plant, Helen as a clerk in a junior Department store.

The 1940 Census - Thomas Wallace

1940 U.S. Census - Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA

In 1940 Retta's brother, Thomas Wallace lived in L.A. along with his wife Viola.  They are renting a home for $65 a month,  Thomas was born in Scotland, was a high school graduate, and employed as a mechanic for an aluminium manufacturer.

1940 U.S. Census - Whittier, Los Angeles Co., CA

By 1940 Henrietta (Retta) Wallace Francis lived in Whittier, CA with her husband and daughter.  The family had moved there a few years earlier so Retta could care for her aged parents - James Wallace and Agnes Burnet Wallace.  The Wallaces both passed away in 1937. 

The Francis family owns their home valued at $7,000.  Interestingly Retta is enumerated as having a four year college education.
