Part of the responsibilities of the Administrator including filing a legal notice in the local paper, the "Oregon City Enterprise".

"Administrator’s Notice

Notice Is Hereby Given That the undersigned, administrator of the estate of Jacob Grimm, deceased, has filed his final account as such administrator o the office of the County Clerk of Clackamas county, Oregon; and the County Judge of said county has appointed Saturday, June 1, 1878, at 10 o’clock P.M. for hearing objection to, and settlement of the same.

Hmmm...my horse does not have head-lights, I don't think I'll show up at 10 o'clock P.M. to contest the settlement!

Receipt for Payment

Hiram Straight paid $5.50 to run the Legal Notice for four weeks.

The editor of the newspaper, F.S. Derwent, signed a document vowing that the legal notice would run in his newspaper for four consecutive weeks.  I like that he is called "the printer, publisher, and foreman" of the newspaper.
