Christmas 1947

In 1947, Willard Lowe Waning flew back to Maine after an absence of over 45 years.  This Christmas card is from an old friend, Addie Fogg.  Using my detective skills, I was able to identify some of the folks mentioned in her note.

Card - Front

"18 December 1947
Brooks, Maine

Dear Willard & Wife,

We have all been wondering if you arrived home safe and sound.  Every one is fine here.  Was so glad to see you.  We had quite a bit of snow, but a big rain Monday nite took it all off.  Have had some cold weather.  Hope you found your family all right when you got home.  Fred is fine.  Comes up every week.  Admah(1) and Millie are too.  My Son said he met you up at Troy at Sherbone Fernald's(2) .  I am still holding down the fort alone.  Here's wishing you both a Merry Xmas ...of us here you got home all right.

As ever, Addie"

Card - Inside - Unsigned

1 Perhaps Admah Emmons who married Walter B. Fernald (Sherban's brother) of Brooks, ME

2 Sherban Fernald born in March 1894 was Willard Waning's nephew - sort of - he was the son of Earnest Fernald and Earnest's 2nd wife, Laura.  Earnest's first wife was Hattie Waning, Willard's sister.
